How to get voice chat on Roblox

Straight answer: Roblox voice chat is for age-checked users who are at least 13. You turn it on inside a game that supports it. If you are under 13, you need to wait.¹

Why the rule exists

It can feel unfair when your friends are talking and you cannot join in. The age rule still applies, even when your friends already use voice.

Roblox uses age checks to limit chat between children and adults. A false age can put you in a group meant for older people. Using your real age helps the settings match you.²

Your parent may also want to know who will be talking and what you will do if a conversation feels wrong. Those are useful things to plan before you turn voice on.

What you can actually get

If you are 13 or older, ask your parent to go through these steps with you:

1. Check your real age. Ask your parent to help if the birthday or age group on your account is wrong. Do not use a different birthday to become eligible.²
2. Complete the official age check. Roblox supports ID verification and facial age estimation, which estimates your age from images of your face. Available methods depend on your account and region. A verified phone number does not give you voice access.¹
3. Open a game that supports voice. After your parent agrees, use the headphone icon or the Voice Chat toggle in the game’s settings to connect.¹
4. Practice stopping. Use the microphone icon to mute yourself. To leave voice, open the game’s settings and change Voice Chat from Connected to Disconnected.³

Roblox supports voice on mobile as well as other devices. If the voice option is missing, a game or regional limit may be the reason. Do not look for a different age to enter.³

Ask your parent to open Settings → Parental Controls → Settings you manage → Communication in their linked parent account. You can review the available controls together.⁴ Do not assume everyone using voice in a game is on your friends list.

If you are under 13, ask about the text chat options your account is allowed to use. Or ask to play together with chat off. An agreement with your parent cannot change the voice age rule.¹⁴

Write this down first. Change the game, friend’s name, and time so they are true for you.

1. Name the exact thing. “When I’m 13 and my age check is done, can we try voice in one Roblox game together?”
2. Say why it matters. “Sam and I want to talk while we build, so we do not have to stop and type.”
3. Offer terms. “You can pick the game with me. I’ll play for 30 minutes with the door open when you’re home. You can look at my friends list any time.”
4. Set a check-in. “Can we review it next Sunday? If a conversation feels wrong, I’ll disconnect and tell you. We can pause voice while we work out what happened.”

If the answer is no

Say okay. Ask, “What would need to change for it to be a yes?” Write the answer down. Ask again in a month, not before. If you are not old enough yet, agree to talk again when you are.

What not to do

• Do not enter a fake birthday. Your age group helps decide which people and features you can access.²
• Do not borrow someone else’s account or ID. Use your own account and your own details.²⁵
• Do not follow videos offering to remove the age rule. There is no safe or legitimate bypass. Never give those sites your face, ID, or login. Roblox warns that unofficial login pages can steal accounts.⁵
• Do not keep asking every day. Stick to the date you agreed to revisit the answer.
